I oversaw the complete visual production for the children's series "Iyilik Habercileri" (Messengers of Kindness) on Turkish national TV. My responsibilities included storyboarding, character and asset design, and overseeing the animation process. The show featured seven children from different continents who reported on acts of kindness, with every visual element—from the character models to the culturally enriched backgrounds—carefully crafted to support this global storytelling mission.
My Creative Process
Script Analysis
My journey begins with a thorough reading of the script, where I immerse myself in the narrative and get to know the characters intimately. This initial step is crucial as it informs my creative decisions throughout the project. I summarize each character, focusing on their personalities and roles, which helps me to visualize them distinctly.
Mood Boards Creation
With the character foundations set, I craft mood boards that blend shapes, colors, and textures to capture the essence of both the characters and their environments. These boards are pivotal as they set the visual language and tone for the entire project, ensuring consistency and cohesiveness in the visuals.
Colour Palette Development
Once the mood boards are approved, I select a color palette that not only complements the characters but is also visually appealing to a young audience. This palette is carefully chosen to enhance the visual storytelling and ensure it resonates well with viewers.
Model Sheets Preparation
With colors set, I create detailed model sheets for each character. These sheets serve as vital references, maintaining character consistency throughout the animation, crucial for both character credibility and narrative continuity.
Background Development
The main setting—a whimsical treehouse located near the iconic Istanbul bridge—is designed to integrate urban elements with the surrounding forest. This setting is not just a backdrop but an integral part of the story, enriching the narrative with its unique location.
Functional Design Features
Functionality is key in animation. I incorporate practical elements such as a slide from the treehouse to simplify animation workflows and add dynamic movement within scenes, enhancing both the aesthetic and functional efficiency of the project.
Interior Design
I then turn my attention to the interior of the treehouse, designing it from five different perspectives. This comprehensive approach allows for a versatile and detailed portrayal of the main characters' home, providing multiple visual pathways for storytelling.
Prop Design
Finally, I design the props that will be used in the pilot episode. Each prop is meticulously crafted to fit seamlessly into the world I've created, ensuring they not only look part of the setting but also serve their functional purpose in the narrative.
